Coming from the windy city Chicago, Illinois Kayo brings you vibes that give R&B and Hip-hop wrapped on one, I came across his music while listening to another artist from Chi-Town Gold Haze. Coming off his most recent project “It was fun while it lasted” Kayo is changing the trajectory of how artist are precieved coming from a city filled with drill rap, definitely not the typical sound you would hear or think u are getting coming from that region of the country. Listening to the album “It Was Fun While It Lasted” I could connect with multiple tracks a few notables are “Still” a smooth record ft. Femdot & Paris Price where Kayo says through all the lows and the valley and everything he’s been through he is STILL here, he still survived, he still pushes forward, STILL loves even with all the scars. Another notable record from the project is “30K Feet” ft. Gio Genesis. “Talk/Loose Ends” is a dope record “I don’t wanna talk, too much back and forth” I think this project is a great representation of who Kayo is as a artist throughout the entire album. It’s refreshing to come across yet another male R&B artist who brings that authenticity to his craft which I feel has been missing from R&B for awhile. Listen to the album below
You don’t have to take my word for it take the time out to see for yourself just how talented Kayo is. Outside of his previous album we deceased above his very first single release came last year with “Memories” which brought a lot of attention from the underground rap scene I'm Chicago along with freestyle videos he consistently would drop. The vibe of this record gave me the feel like bro was in his bag, I guess the rent was due. Memories takes u on stage journey through some of Kayos memories that helped mold him into who he is today and it’s put together beautifully in this masterpiece of a record. I have a few records I think Kayo would sound crazy on hopefully I get a chance to work with him on something soon. In the meantime Check out his catalog.
