815

Back again in The Creators Room we have a unique artist, who has a different sound and style when it comes to his music. Tell us you're name and how you came up with it?

My name is 815. I came up with it when I was depressed and in need of a rebrand. I was already making music with my area code 815 in mind so

Just decided to fully adopt it into my identity. I’ve lived all over the 815 which is really just a series of suburbs but they’re highly influenced by Chicago with their own distinct subcultures. I was born in Chicago but I don’t

consider myself from there because we never stayed long enough for it to feel like home. The 815 is my home.

Jason James Born in Chicago mostly known by thw name 815 is influenced by the sound and culture of the windy city. Coming onto the music scene in 2021 815 quickly started to gain attention with his Dark R&B and Trapsoul ballads. What inspired you to pursue this journey in music?

My parents my dad was a local rapper and it’s basically the first thing we bonded on other than Dragon ball Z.

I remember seeing Chris Brown run It for the first time and telling my mom I wanted to do music when I was like 6. She just told me I could do it. So now I’m doing it.

Following in the footsteps of your pops I see, that’s an amazing thing when you have that support system backing you. Starting from a young age 815 knew he was destined to make music like his father before him and when the time came he released two EPs and a album after exploding onto the music scene in 2021. “Who Is 815?” And “Broken Butterfly” helped start the movement of who 815 is today. Tell us a little bit about yourself growing up and how you started making music!

Growing up we moved around a lot my identity was kinda just a weird amalgamation of random one off experiences. By the time I had a stable home I didn’t know how to make friends.

I was so used to them never lasting I was a weird kid for a long time. The only thing consistent was dancing and making music and i got really good a both at one point. I used to drop freestyles on SoundCloud in its early stages off my phone and make dance videos on YouTube.

When 2016 hit I got a job, built a cheap home studio a started a rap group with my friends. Eventually I discovered pitcher which made me fall back in love with singing and made me wanna learn how to sing again. Years later I’m decent at it and a dope writer.

It’s always amazing to have the story behind the artist and how they became who they are, facing adversities while managing to push through day to day life isn’t easy but you did it. You built a home studio to help perfect you’re craft! When it comes to your craft, what makes you stand out from your peers?

The writing is goated. The melodies are unique. The self promo and consistency are top tier. I’m wavier than them niggas too to be real.

Confidence is key, even if you weren't the fact that you say it and believe it is a recipe for a powerful career and growth. What is Noxvita? Tell us a little bit about that!

Noxvita is a Dark R&B / Trapsoul collective I started with CARU, and TELLEMAMI. I had the concept for a while in my head of this city that never experiences day time and all the lights are artificial, there’s a coldness and a darkness to it.

It’s enticing just like the night life. Nox means night in Latin and Vita means life in Latin. It’s just perfect representation for how I always wanted to live. Leaving Chicago at night and seeing how beautiful the city looks inspired an infatuation with cities and skylines.

That imagery is the perfect back drop for the sound we created. It’s not just basic Dark R&B and trapsoul the sound is particular it’s cold it’s dark it’s beautiful.

What message do you want to give to you’re audience through your music?

I don’t really have a particular message I just say how i feel and whatever you take from it you take from it. When we were making “ Whatever It Was” and the other 2 chapters that followed I was so particular about the sequencing and the story I was trying to tell hoping that people “understood”.

I see now that it was foolish all that effort for people to decide it’s trash in 30 seconds or less. I’m still particular in the way I write arrange and sequence these songs and projects but I kinda just do it for me and just hope you like it.

If you come up with an interpretation different from what I meant that just means you’re a free thinker I’m not gonna tell you you’re wrong. I’ll keep what meant to myself cuz I made it for me.

By now we all can tell that your style is in the Dark R&B realm, tell us what that’s all about? Elaborate a little?

I just like Dark R&B and I make it. I listen to almost exclusively well really just R&B in general I live and breathe the music I create it’s not just an aesthetic for me.

Who in the music industry do you look up to?

Look up too is crazy 90% of these niggas are bad people usually. Creatively I’m inspired by PND, Chris Brown, Tory Lanez , Bryson Tiller , Wayne, Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Eli Sostre ( not really industry) just cold niggas man.

What is the goal for you in the music world?

To take it as far as I can while being as free as possible. Creatively free, financially free, spiritually free, I just want my story mean something to a bunch of people I don’t wanna fade.

815 is an interesting artist with a pretty extensive catalog, recently he has released new music in 2025 and album titled “Tragedy Out Of The Blue” and a single titled “Mine” let's keep a eye on 815
